Properties of l'OPC
Antioxidation
OPCs work like antioxidants by neutralising free radicals. Free radicals are unstable molecules naturally produced during the cellular metabolism and in response to various environmental stressors. They can damage cells, lipids, proteins and DNA OPCs neutralise free radicals by supplying them with electrons, which stabilises the molecules and prevents cellular damage
Endothelium protection
The endothelium is the layer of cells lining the blood vessels. OPCs have the ability to strengthen the endothelium by increasing the synthesis of collagen, an essential protein in the structure and function of blood vessels. This improves the resistance and flexibility of blood vessels
Improved blood circulation
Among their vascular properties, OPCs help dilate blood vessels, which can improve blood circulation. They can influence the production of nitric oxide (NO), a molecule which acts like a vasodilator by relaxing the muscles in blood vessel walls
OPC
OPCs (oligomeric proanthocyanidins) play a precise role in the body through a series of cellular and molecular mechanisms. OPCs, or oligomeric proanthocyanidins, are phenolic compounds from the flavonoid family, which are widely found in plants. Grape OPCs are specifically extracted from grape seeds and skin, and renowned for their antioxidant properties and human health benefits
Grape OPCs are flavan-3-ol polymers – flavonoids which form part of the polyphenol family. They consist of units of catechin and epicatechin, connected by covalent bonds. More specifically, OPCs are oligomers or polymers of procyanidins, which are dimers, trimers or even larger polymers comprised of these two flavan-3-ols
